The setting is a crime-infested, asphalt and marble city in the late 1940′s.  A cold city with clanging street cars and shady characters.

Under the Lamp Post

It is a January evening and the air is as astringent as Kentucky bourbon.  Knuckles Malone frames a lit match with his hand, touches the yellow flame to his signature Camel and leans the prominent shoulder pad of his trench coat against a lamp post; his cement-colored eyes riveted on his next mark.
