Surely there are promises and joys that wait unknown to us in days and years, and even the moments ahead. How boldly and beautifully this is portrayed in the color and want of children’s dreams, how safely their eyes are turned to the morrow. A Passing Quiet Cloud

Jen was still sleeping; their dog wasn’t though; he opened one eye from the foot of their bed and watched Mark as he was leaving the bedroom too quietly. Jinx closed his eye and Mark quietly, closed the bedroom door. From a dream, Jen reached to Mark, and gently touched his pillow.

The small cottage that had recently become Mark and Jen’s home was viewed by neighbors as something strange and misplaced; it was one third the size of the other homes on their block and had no garage or lawn. Somehow though, it had passed the laws and the codes, and a builder with a vision of his own had smiled when the last shutter was in place.

Her favorite trees to fly near to were the tall green pines that grew at the top of Black Bear Mountain. She was warned many times though, of the winds and storms that would come there.

You had to do a little magic; you had to see more than was there. An abandoned car could be a castle if you liked and the ice cream truck could be driven by a king or a knight. The sidewalks could be painted and even the sewers held treasures that parents were denied. Trust me still and know that great forests were there in Brooklyn and this one I will tell of was filled with more wonder than all.

In the distance, gentle gulls sailed in time’s searching winds, beautiful journeys never ending, sharing the horizon with orange and gold, as the sun whispered low in an empurpled sky. Tree tops fell darkened, umber and still, near shadowed church steeples to the west, and branches of oak that held the children’s tree house swayed gently, as pacific, autumn winds sang near and far. Ginny, and her younger brother Timmy, watched from the tree house’s window; colorful leaves danced in the sun’s noble light, and then fell softly to the ground.

It was two weeks before Christmas and Jenny was knitting a colorful scarf to leave for Santa as a gift for when he came on his sled with his reindeers on Christmas Eve, something to keep him warm when he flew through the night, going from home to home with all of his presents for children all over the world. She was sitting on a fluffy brown couch in front of the fireplace, humming a Christmas carol as she made Santa’s scarf, and her younger brother Timmy, who had just turned eight, was watching as Jenny made magic with red, white and green spools of wool.
