The man wrote words on the sand and let the sea wash them away. Could he do the same for Hilary's troubles?
Jamie ran along the coastal path ahead of Hilary.
“You not coming, Mum?” He called.
“There's someone else, down there,” Hilary said. She knew she should have stayed away.
Jamie came back to her. Together they looked down at the beach. A man, and a boy about Jamie's age, were at the water's edge writing words in the sand and watching the tide erase them.
