No Place Like Home – P. J. Delaney
1000 words General / Literary Fiction
This is a short, bleak story, practically a skeleton of a story really. It’s about a man who likes where he is. He likes his view and his place, simply… he feels that he belongs here. There is one little problem though… things seem to just… suddenly… disappear.
I looked out the window as soon as I heard the geese. I hadn’t seen or heard them flying here since I was a child. I’ve always enjoyed watching geese flying. Looking down on the world and taking their turns at the front to cut the air. There’s a great sense of nobility in a skein of geese flying south, they come from the back of the house, circle and land down on the moorlands behind the trees. This isn’t a lucky place, things disappear, but it can be beautiful, especially at this time of year, and I like this place.
