Dim-fold – Jon Elliott

1000 word Science Fiction

The construction and training phase had ended. It was time to start the human trials. No one was surprised when, military specialist, Lisa White volunteered to be the first to dim-fold. Actually, she was the only one brave enough.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Lisa lay as still as possible on the dim-fold table. This would be her first, out-of-body, dimensional fold. Her left foot twitched unceremoniously. She wished she had put her long auburn hair into a bun. Bob leaned over her face, “Nervous?” Lisa focused on the countdown timer and said, “I’m ready.” Bob backed away from the table. When the timer hit zero, she felt a mild electric pinch. She now hovered near the ceiling, staring down at her body on the folding table.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Down the street from Mercy Bank, Rob Warner stood in the rain. It was better this way, he thought. The rain washed tears from his face, leaving only uncomfortably swollen eyes to expose his emotions. Rob had promised his mother that he would try it, at least once. Too many times he’d said no to her. At times, he’d even hated her for being so persistent. The brutal attack on the fifth precinct, that left his partner and six other officers dead, changed his perspective.

To Whom it May Concern – Jon Elliott

1000 words Science Fiction

Chemox Swax hurried his way to MindTop University. Today was the day he would reveal the most stunning scientific discovery of his generation. Unfortunately, one crucial piece of information still eluded him.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

With long practiced stealth, Chemox Swax slithered his way towards the Great Hall of Science. He needed speed and not the slow pulsing rhythm of walking upright on ‘hind foots’. When he reached the back door, he stood up, brushed himself off and retrieved a Pul-Flug suit from his tie-on back sack. With suit on, he approached the door and flashed facial gestures at the lock panel. The door slid open and he hind footed his way down the corridor to the Presentation Hall.
