flights of angels cover3700 words Literary / General Fiction

Doris was a dreamer. Tim was a realist. Neither believed in angels, until the storm...

Doris sits behind the counter tallying her day's receipts. She keeps losing count and having to repeat the process; her mind is still full of the dream she had the night before. She's been thinking about it all day. In her dream, she is standing at the back door of her shop, looking out toward the back door of Nickolas Tailors across the alley. Only in the dream there's no alley, no buildings, no town at all, just a green meadow sloping down toward the Oklawaha River and a boundless forest beyond. It's how this place might have looked before there was Asheton, or any roads or people here. But in the dream, there are people, or something like people.
