Alfie Dog Fiction offers a story critique service to any authors for work they wish to place elsewhere.
- For a fee of £10 for up to 2,000 words, and £5 for each subsequent 1,000 words, Alfie Dog Fiction will offer a critique of any piece of fiction you are looking to enter in a competition or submit for publication elsewhere. This critique will look for things such as: What works? What doesn’t work? Is the story written from the best point of view? Does the story contain point of view errors? Does the story start in the right place? Is the ending satisfying? Basically is the story good enough for your readers to come away feeling their time was well spent and want to read more of your work.
- A reduced fee of £5 for up to 2,000 words, and £2.50 for each subsequent 1000 words, will be charged on stories being resubmitted for a further review following rework.
- Critiques will be provided within 21 days of the work being accepted for critique. A confirmation email will be sent to acknowledge acceptance following payment having been received.
- Submit your story to firstname.lastname@example.org in any of the following formats:
.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt file or in the body of the email – we will send you an invoice via Paypal upon receipt. You do not need to have a Paypal account to pay this way, but can simply use a credit or debit card without the creation of an account.
Please note this is not a copy edit and does not guarantee to pick up every error. It is a critique of the content of the story, although we will highlight other spelling and grammatical errors that are noted along the way.
In the event that we can find no flaw in your story then your critique fee will be refunded in full.

I sent a short story in titled “The Lady and the Con” for critique and the end result of your suggestions resulted in this story being accepted by the Storyteller Magazine. Your skills helped me to achieve a goal I had set of being published in a print magazine and I commend you and your staff for the quick turn-around that you provided. Rosemary Kind helped to give me the confidence to send my story to a quite prestigious magazine with her honest and insightful critique. I sent this in twice and each time she pointed out how to make it a stronger and better story. M.M. by
