Association of Christian Writers and Alfie Dog Fiction Crime Competition
Announcement of Winners
Post Safe – Ingrid Heyn
Shelter from the Storm – Marion Richards
Landscape Gardner – Gaynor Roberts
Most of us love a bit of crime. Well… crime fiction anyway.
Our next competition, launched jointly with the Association of Christian Writers (ACW), is to write a crime story. You might wish to write cosy crime (like Agatha Christie), something more gritty (like Patricia Cornwell), Scandi, or… you may have your own take on the crime genre. Surprise us! However, there must be a Christian element in your story. Perhaps you’d like to set it in a church (or other Christian setting) or include main characters whose Christian faith is an important element in the story. We’re looking for crime fiction, not true crime; please avoid making any references to living people in your story.
We will not accept gratuitous bad language, graphic sex or violence, or writing likely to incite racial or religious hatred.
Our judges are Wendy H Jones and Rosemary Kind. Wendy is the author of the award-winning DI Shona McKenzie mystery series, the Fergus and Flora mystery series, and Power Packed Book Marketing. Rosemary Kind, who publishes the Alfie Dog website, has also written three novels, The Appearance of Truth, The Lifetracer and Alfie’s Woods, and she is co-author (with Patsy Collins) of From Story Idea to Reader, an easily accessible guide to writing fiction. Wendy and Rosemary are looking, particularly, for a well written and complete story, which will satisfy the reader. Beyond this, originality will make the story stand out from the crowd, so it is worth avoiding the most commonly repeated story lines
Entry to the ACW Crime Fiction Competition is free to ACW members. For non-members, the fee is £3 for one entry and £5 for two entries. If you would like a critique of your work, please pay an extra £7 through the PayPal link on the ACW website. The critique charge is the same for members and non-members.
All entries must be received by the Competitions Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday 18 April 2017.
Judging will be completed by Monday, 22 May 2017 and winners informed shortly afterwards. The winning entry may be published in a future edition of Christian Writer (subject to the approval of the editor) and online on Alfie Dog Fiction (again, subject to approval of editor). The winner will receive two books, chosen from Masterclass: Writing Crime Fiction by Rosemary Rowe; Power Packed Book Marketing by Wendy H. Jones; From Story Idea to Reader by Rosemary Kind and Patsy Collins. The second-placed winner will choose one book, from the same selection.
